Congress Intends to Probe Genomics Companies

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce announced it would be investigating three personal genomics companies—23andMe, Navigenics, and Pathway Genomics Corp.—to determine how the companies analyze results and store genetic samples they receive. The move comes a week after a flap over Pathway Genomics's plans to sell its test over the counter in Walgreens, a plan the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said was unacceptable because the test needed the agency's authorization.
