The whole effort amounts to a big test, says Tierney. "Why bother with consent forms when you can automatically enroll everyone in the experiment?" And the outcome is far from certain, he notes. Salt has some compelling health benefits along with its negatives. Would the mayor consider recruiting for a control group?
