Hubble Is Back in Business

The Hubble Space Telescope's main camera is again functioning after a power source failed aboard the orbiting spacecraft.

Last week, the camera put itself into safe mode, and despite repeated attempts, NASA engineers were unable to wake it (ScienceNOW, 22 June). The observatory's other instruments continued to function.

NASA today switched to a backup power source successfully, and agency managers said at a press conference that they hope to resume science operations Sunday.
