Since the first foray in 1990, Science's genome special issues have played a unique role in the unfolding story of genomic studies -- combining the reporting of landmark genomes such as the worm, the fly, and the human with vital context for understanding the significance of genomic and post-genomic studies on the larger canvas of biomedicine, and with news coverage of the scientific and political dimensions of the genomic quest. From Mycoplasma to mammal, the special issues have charted the progress, and the pitfalls, of what may be the single greatest scientific collaboration of our time.
