Welcome to AAASMember.org, the AAAS online membership community

Dear AAAS Member,

Thanks to everyone who responded to the AAAS Advances member survey. We appreciate your assistance. Below is a summary of the survey results.

What are people reading?

  • 76% read the letter from Alan Leshner, AAAS CEO, either occasionally or always
  • 62% read the Voice Your Opinion section either occasionally or always
  • 79% read the AAAS in Action section either occasionally or always
  • 78% read the AAAS Announcements section either occasionally or always

Is the newsletter useful, interesting, and informative?

  • 53% gave AAAS Advances a 4 or 5 out of 5 for usefulness
  • 65% gave AAAS Advances a 4 or 5 out of 5 for interesting
  • 72% gave AAAS Advances a 4 or 5 out of 5 for informative

Too long, too short, or just right?

  • 59% said the length of AAAS Advances is just right. Of those who disagreed, it was a pretty even split, so we plan to keep the newsletter about the same length that it currently is.

How can we improve the newsletter? Suggested new sections:

  • Of the suggested new sections, features highlighting AAAS programs came in the highest with 75% giving it a 4 or 5 out of 5. This is the AAAS at Work section we launched in this month's issue, thanks to your feedback.
  • Online chats were a second choice with 50% giving it a 4 or 5 out of 5. We are looking into the capabilities of adding this feature to future issues.
  • 40% of those who responded to the survey were interested in adding a kudos section to congratulate members for their achievements.

From the response to this survey, it appears AAAS Advances has been a good first step to improve communication to our members. If you have any other comments about how we can improve the newsletter, or if you have any questions about your membership, please feel free to contact us at (202) 326-6417 or membership{at}aaas.org.

Sincerely,

John Meyers
Director of Marketing
AAAS Office of Publishing and Member Services

P.S. This survey was conducted through links in the June and July issues of AAAS Advances. We received 650 responses from members across multiple disciplines and geographic areas.
