Requests received by 9:00 AM East Coast (US) time will usually be filled out the same working day. Other requests will usually be filled the next working day.
  8. How do I tell when my membership/subscription expires?
Need to include a diagram of the label
  9. How can I get an invoice or receipt?
When you join or renew online, you will receive an automatically generated email receipt. You can also have a receipt sent to you by contacting our Member Service office via email at membership{at}aaas.org or call +1 202-326-6417
  10. How do I activate my Science Online account?
In order to gain access to Science Online and AAASMember.org, you need to activate your Science Online subscription at
    http://www.sciencemag.org/subscriptions/activate.dtl. This involves:

    Entering your AAAS membership number
Selecting a user name and password, and verifying your contact information
Receiving a confirmation email that your subscription is active
  11. How can I change the name on my membership/subscription?
You can not change the name on this record as it is a personal membership. AAAS membership is individual and nontransferable. If you would like to receive a new member application or information on non-member subscriptions, we would be happy to provide it.
  12. Why did I receive another renewal notice when I’ve already paid for my membership/subscription?
It is sometimes possible that your payment could cross in the mail with our renewal notices. However if you receive a second renewal after you've sent in your payment, please contact Member Services directly at membership{at}aaas.org or call +1 202-326-6417.
  13. Why do I receive a renewal notice notices before my membership/subscription has expired?
Renewal notices are sent out well in advance, so that our members do not experience a break in service.
  14. Why am I receiving two copies off Science each week?
You are likely receiving two copies of Science because you likely have two membership records. The two membership records occurred when you renewed without using your original membership number and were therefore assigned a new one. Please contact Member Services at membership{at}aaas.org or call +1 202-326-6417 and we will fix this.
  15. What do I do if I’ve made a payment but AAAS has no record of receiving it?
You can mail or fax a copy to our Member Services the canceled check or credit card statement that contains the payment information. The mailing address is:
    AAAS
    Membership Office
    1200 New York Avenue, NW
    Washington, DC 20005
Our fax number is: +1 202-842-1065
  16. How can I be comfortable with providing my credit card details online?
Please be advised that payment transactions for Science, STKE, SAGE KE, and Science Online are done through a secure server. While no one can guarantee 100% security, we at AAAS believe that payment information you submit through our servers is secure. Pressing the “Proceed” button takes you automatically to a secure server. You are ONLY taken to a nonsecure server when you click on, “Enter Nonsecure Server”. Any other buttons or links urging you to proceed are indeed secure. After submitting your credit card information, you may note a message that you are being transferred to a nonsecure site. This is a notification that your information has gone through, and you are being transferred to the Science Online activate page. Your information has already been transferred to our secure server at this point and you are merely being redirected.

An easy way to tell whether or not a site is secure is to look at the actual address. If you see an S located after the HTTP in the web address (example –
https://pubs.aaas.org/membership/new_member_setup.asp) this is a secure site. If there is no S after the HTTP in the web address, you are not at a secure site.

If you are not comfortable making credit card payments via the internet, you may call us at (202) 326-6417 or fax us at (202)842-1065 or mail us at:
    AAAS
    Membership Office
    1200 New York Avenue, NW
    Washington, DC 20005

For international membership you can call us at +44 (0) 1223 326515 or fax us at +44 (0) 1223 326535 or mail us at:
    Science International
    Bateman House 82-88 Hills Road
    Cambridge CB@ 1LQ, UK
For International Members/Subscribers:
  1. Who is Global Collect and why am I paying them for my membership?
Global Collect manages our payments for international membership.
  2. Why is there a difference rate charged on each of the renewal notices I receive?
Due to currency fluctuations, the renewal rate may change from notice to notice.
  3. How can I pay in U.S. dollars?
By paying online at AAASMember.org you will be able to renew online and pay in U.S. dollars.
  4. How is Science delivered to me?

Alan Leshner

A note from AAAS CEO, Alan Leshner:

During the last decade, AAAS has become increasingly international in focus and character. Since opening the Science International office in Cambridge, U.K., ten years ago, the number of research articles by non-U.S. scientists published in Science has increased from 15 percent to nearly 40 percent of the total. Happy tenth anniversary to the Cambridge team and thank you for the vital role you play in advancing science and serving society worldwide.
