In the 12 September 2003 issue of Science, we present the results of the 2003 Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge -- a joint project of the National Science Foundation and Science Magazine designed to "encourage recognition of the visual and conceptual beauty of science and engineering." In this online slide show, we present a view of the winning entries for this year's contest, including links to high-resolution images and audiovisual clips. As this brief tour suggests, the winners successfully negotiated the elusive boundary between science and art -- and demonstrated that visualizing scientific data is an undertaking that truly takes both sides of the brain.
