I walked past this woman working in a sugarcane field in Mtubatuba, South Africa, to interview a social worker down the road. I wanted Malcolm to shoot a photograph of the social worker and only then realized that he was nowhere in sight. I walked back down the road, where Malcolm was intently photographing this family. "That's the cover shot," he said. "The kids are looking at me like what are you going to do for us." Malcolm shot 4000 photos on our trip. The image of these two children is on the cover.
