A morning drive in eastern Gabon reveals that it is hunting season here all the time--and that there is no shortage of hunters. These men, Allouise Mosege and Francois Mocono, had yet to bag anything, but the day was still young and they were hoping for an antelope. Small monkeys also are common game here, as are porcupines, civets, and gazelles. "I leave in the morning and this way I feed my whole village," says Mosege. And if they have too much meat, they can always display it on an upside-down fuel can alongside the road--the jungle version of the butcher shop--and sell it to a passing car.
