HIV/AIDS: Historical News Coverage
Cover

To mark World AIDS Day -- and the approaching 20th anniversary of the discovery of a link between the HIV virus and AIDS -- the 29 November 2002 issue of Science offers four special Viewpoint essays by key players in the early quest to isolate the AIDS pathogen. To provide additional context regarding that early effort, and the substantial controversy it stoked, we are posting here PDF versions of seven Science news articles, with dates ranging from 1983 to 2002, that help trace out the story of the early discovery of HIV and the subsequent dispute among that story's protagonists. These historical articles are free to all Science Online visitors.
