I am going to reserve my comments to the last question, "What is the role of AAAS?"
The AAAS is a very interesting Society with a very broad base. I have only been peripherally active in the AAAS before assuming my present position with the Medical Science Group. Personally, I have had a very difficult time understanding what my current obligations are and how I may better interact with the Society. Perhaps you have an introduction for new Section Chiefs that I missed. If so, I am sorry. But I have become active in other large organizations, for example FASEB, in which there was an extremely instructive day on the goals of the Society at large and how members may better participate. I know that this is a real challenge with so many busy people interacting, but it is, to me, one of the most important changes that you can make.
