COVER A confocal laser scanning micrograph shows cyanobacterial filaments (yellow, 5 mm wide) and calcite crystals of a soda lake biofilm (green). Cyanobacterial photosynthesis can induce biofilm calcification only in settings low in dissolved inorganic carbon and high in calcium.
