About the Cover

Cover Figure

COVER A small light gap created by a single fallen tree in the tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island in Lake Gatun of the Panama Canal, Panama. More than 1200 such gaps were monitored in this forest over a 13-year period, and the findings provide insight as to the role of such light-gap disturbances in maintaining the high diversity of tree species in tropical forests.
