Tin bronze stag, 52.5 centimeters high, excavated from Tomb B at Alaca Höaut;yüaut;k, north central Turkey, and now in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, Ankara. The stag dates to the mid-third millennium (Anatolian Early Bronze Age), a period characterized by the introduction of bronzes. A source for the tin used in making bronze has been a mystery. Kestel, a mine in the Taurus Mountains of Turkey, may have been that source of tin ore. See page 200.
