Molecular crowding on the living cell surface is revealed by the redistributions of fluorescence-labeled surface proteins in electrical potential gradients. This pseudocolor digital image shows induced asymmetric concentration profiles of fluorescein-labeled immunoglobulin E receptors on rat basophilic leukemia cell surfaces.
