Male fawn of the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), 5 weeks old. Fawns of that age derive most of their energy from milk and the remainder from vegetation. They run about 450 meters in a play bout. When deprived of part of their milk, they continue to play, rest more, and compensate by increased grazing. See page 85. [Richard Altieri, P.O.
