Watershed (area of 13.4 hectares), one of two in the southern Appalachian Mountains that were experimentally converted from indigenous hardwoods to white pine. After only 15 years, streamflow from both pinecovered watersheds was substantially less than flow from watersheds covered with mature deciduous hardwoods similar to those shown adjacent to the pine.
