The North Pacific Oscillation (also known as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation) is another cycle that may have significant consequences for precipitation and ecological variables affected by precipitation. This cycle is much longer than those described in the paper, and the phenomenon is also much more recently discovered so not as much work has been done on it. I have found what appear to be significant effects of the NPO on winter precipitation in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, which in turn affects most aspects of phenology in that region.
