I disagree with the authors on their "ethical reasons" for funding stem cell research. First, that somebody else will get ahead is not a reason at all to imply that "we should get ahead." Tit-for-tat: if others will find the cure, I don't have to waste my tax money on it. Second, Nazis used the same criteria for their experiments: Since we will kill them, why not take advantage and do some science? Would these authors quote the medical findings from those "doctors"? Third, the fact that some people base their opposition on their religious beliefs should not disqualify opposition based on ethical/humane reasons. Moreover, precisely because we are a religious, pluralistic society we should hear the concerns of society about this research, as much as we hear from those that that benefit from it (either medically or scientifically from funding).
