Quasi-Crystal Conundrum Opens a Tiling Can of Worms

On page 1106 of this week's issue of Science, physicists propose that sometime between the 13th and 15th centuries, Islamic architects created tile patterns that conform almost exactly to a pattern called a quasi-crystal--500 years before it was formally described in the West. (Read more.)
