Ras on the Roundabout

Doris Meder and Kai Simons

H-Ras, N-Ras, and K-Ras are homologous signaling molecules that are able to regulate distinct signaling pathways because they inhabit different compartments within the cell. In their Perspective, Meder and Simons discuss new work (Rocks et al.) showing that N-Ras and H-Ras continuously cycle between the plasma membrane and Golgi membranes and that this trafficking depends on whether the Ras isoforms carry a palmitoyl group.
