Aging of the Ovary Linked to PTEN Pathway

On page 611 of this week's issue of Science, researchers report that in the absence of a gene called Pten, the egg-containing follicles of mice were activated rapidly at an early age, thus causing depletion of the animals' eggs much sooner than is normal--a situation similar to that of premature ovarian failure in humans.
