New Estimates Scale Back Scope of HIV/AIDS Epidemic

Two United Nations groups reported last week that since last year the estimated number of people infected with HIV worldwide and the annual number of new infections have both dropped. A large part of the steep decline, however, reflects the fact that numbers for previous years had been overestimated.
