Twists in the Tale of the Aging Yeast

Jasper Rine

Aging limits the number of divisions available to cells and the chronological life span of nondividing cells. In his Perspective, Rine discusses recent findings that caloric restriction, SIR2, and its molecular cousins, play conserved roles in aging. However, expectations of a simple unified model linking caloric restriction and aging through Sir2 protein's NAD cofactor are now on hold.
