Suppressing Cancer: The Importance of Being Senescent

Judith Campisi

Cellular senescence permanently arrests the cell division cycle and has long been thought to prevent the growth of cells at risk for transformation into cancer cells. In her Perspective, Campisi discusses recent evidence that cellular senescence indeed limits the development of malignant cancers in mice and humans.
