Tiny Whirlpools Prove Atoms Flow Freely

Stirring a cloud of ultracold atoms, physicists have produced an array of tiny whirlpools that pierced the cloud and proved that the atoms in it had formed a "superfluid," a strange quantum-mechanical soup that flows without any resistance and refuses to rotate.
