Europe and Asia have yielded a number of hominid fossils from the period 1 to 0.5 million years ago, but few hominid fossils from this era have been found in Africa. In his Perspective, Schwartz discusses a new hominid fossil find at Olorgesailie in Kenya, and whether it belongs to the species Homo erectus.
