Continental Margins and the Sulfur Cycle

Louis A. Derry and Richard W. Murray

Chemical cycling at the continental margins affects ocean chemistry and thus plays a role in climate change on Earth. In their Perspective, Derry and Murray discuss work by Turchyn and Schrag that shows that the marine sulfur cycle at the continental margins has been more dynamic than expected. This sulfur cycling over the last few million years could have affected the ocean's capacity to sequester carbon.
