2004 ANNUAL MEETING:
Science at the Extremes?

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON--A highly caffeinated crowd of about 11,000 attended this year's meeting here of the AAAS (Science's publisher). At one session, National Science Foundation Director Rita Colwell denied that the Bush Administration is "hostile to science" and suggested that the profession, and the writers who cover it, are to blame for the public's distorted view of scientific controversies.
