In Vino Vitalis? Compounds Activate Life-Extending Genes

Several naturally occurring small molecules extend the life of yeast cells by approximately 70% and offer some protection to cultured human cells exposed to radiation, researchers reported online in Nature on 24 August. The molecules belong to a family of chemicals known as polyphenols, some of which are prominent components of grapes, red wine, olive oil, and other foods.
