Passages Found Through Labyrinth of Bacterial Evolution

Many genes have jumped between microbial species, leading evolutionary biologists to conclude that microbial ancestries would be difficult, if not impossible, to untangle. Now on page 829, a team reports identifying numerous genes that have been faithful to their genomes, making bacterial classification feasible.
