PHYSICS:
Quantum Dots Chemically Wired for Spintronics

Robert F. Service

Researchers report online in Science this week (www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/1086963) a simple scheme in which they linked quantum dots with molecules and then sent information about electron spin through the chemical "wires." The work could lead to breakthroughs in solar cells, molecular electronics, sensors, light-emitting displays, and other areas.
