E.U. Starts a Chemical Reaction

BRUSSELS--Last week, officials from the European Commission met with industry and environmental groups here to discuss proposed legislation that would require chemical manufacturers to run extensive safety tests over 11 years on the 30,000 most common chemicals on the market. The chemical industry, understandably, is up in arms, but the new regulations could be a boon for research.
