Dates Boost Conventional Wisdom About Solomon's Splendor

By carbon-dating grain and olive pits from an excavation in northern Israel, archaeologists say they have pinpointed a layer from the time of King Solomon. The discovery, reported on page 315, may settle politically charged arguments about when ancient Israel emerged as a sophisticated state.
