Determining exactly how victims perish in a volcanic eruption can lead to improved protection for volcanologists and others who must enter a danger zone and can even give them a shot at survival if caught in an eruption. Peter Baxter's insights may help protect people from the bodily threat of eruptions as well as the potential long-term health effects of ashes and gas.
