CLIMATE:
River Flow Could Derail Crucial Ocean Current

On page 2171, researchers report that some of the biggest rivers in the world are dumping 7% more water into the Arctic Ocean than they were in the 1930s--an increase of 128 cubic kilometers per year. If global temperature continues to climb, the influx of fresh water could have a major impact on ocean circulation and northern climate. But many experts caution that too little is known to make any solid predictions about such effects.
