GENETIC MODIFICATION:
Europe Prepares for Arrival of GM Foods

BRUSSELS--The European Union appears set to lift its 4-year ban on foods made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), following the drafting of a new directive on food labeling late last month. The European Parliament is expected to give its final approval of the new rules next March, and the European Commission last week put in place the mechanism to make the new system work: the European Network of GMO Laboratories.
