Fishing for Microbes

James M. Gossett

Bioremediation is an attractive approach for removing chemical contaminants from soil and groundwater using bacteria that degrade the contaminants for energy. In his Perspective, Gossett discusses the discovery of a new bacterium (Sun et al.) that reduces trichloroethane during the process of dehalorespiration and may be of value for removing this very common contaminant from the environment.
