SINGLE MOLECULES:
Molecular Entanglements

Michel Orrit

Quantum mechanical effects will be inevitable as electronic devices shrink toward the molecular scale. In his Perspective, Orrit explains that these effects may offer unexpected new routes for information processing. He highlights the report by Hettich et al., who show that "entangled states"-coherent mixtures of quantum states-of two interacting molecules can be prepared in the solid state. Such states may become useful in quantum information processing.
