Million-Dollar Plums for Teaching Biology

Last week, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute announced fellowships that will give each of 20 top U.S. biologists $1 million over 4 years to enhance undergraduate education. The new awards are meant to improve science curricula at major research universities, where courses are often outdated, boring, and impersonal.
