ARCHAEOLOGY:
Millions Pledged for Afghan Restoration

Two weeks ago, international donors met in Kabul to confront the daunting challenge of restoring Afghanistan's cultural and archaeological heritage after 23 years of strife. The meeting produced millions of dollars in pledges to rebuild and restore structures and provide the human resources needed to maintain them. But participants agreed that an even more important ingredient is political stability.
