TRANSCRIPTION:
Unlocking the Gates to Gene Expression

Christopher J. Fry and Craig L. Peterson

In eukaryotes, genomic DNA is tightly packed into chromatin, and this structure must be disrupted to allow endogenous genes to be transcribed. In their Perspective, Fry and Peterson discuss new work (Soutoglou and Talianidis) describing how chromatin-remodeling enzymes can regulate different steps along the pathway leading to transcription.
