ANIMAL WELFARE:
Senate Says No to New Rodent Rules

The U.S. Senate last week voted to bar the U.S. Department of Agriculture from setting new rules on how scientists use and care for millions of research rodents. But animal-rights groups have vowed to strip the new rule from any final version of the bill, which still must be reconciled with a House version that lacks the lab-animal language.
