Formation of vesicles carrying secretory proteins depends on the activity of the Golgi, the cell's central protein sorting station. In a Perspective, Bankaitis discusses new findings (Baron and Malhotra) that reveal how protein kinase D, a key molecule required for vesicle formation, is recruited to the Golgi by a lipid called diacylglycerol that is both produced and consumed within this organelle.
