Dietary Advice on Q

Marc Tatar and David M. Rand

Eating dramatically fewer calories increases the longevity of a variety of animals, but no one yet knows whether diet quality also affects aging. In their Perspective, Tatar and Rand discuss the new finding that worms fed a diet lacking coenzyme Q, which is important in mitochondrial electron transport, live longer (Larsen and Clarke). They debate whether a reduction in coenzyme Q results in the production of fewer oxygen free radicals during electron transport.
