Online, On Campus: Proceed With Caution

Faculty members who have taken their courses online report a net gain in student achievement. But online instruction isn't cheap or easy, and despite all the buzz about distance learning, the true Internet pioneers are likely to be veteran faculty members who have turned to technology to improve the education experience for their students on campus. Those without tenure may need to think twice before taking the plunge, as it will leave them less time to spend getting published.
