Pentagon Proposes to Cut AIDS Research From Defense Budget

The U.S. Department of Defense has fired a salvo at its own AIDS research effort, branding it a "nontraditional defense program" that should be cut from the defense budget. Not only has the designation wounded military AIDS researchers, it is causing outrage in the broader community, because the U.S. Military HIV Research Program plays a unique role in AIDS vaccine development.
