SUPERCONDUCTIVITY:
Super Boron

Since superconductivity was originally discovered almost 100 years ago, several groups of superconductors have been discovered. The main group elements were originally the main focus of attention, but this shifted to the transition metals when cuprates were discovered. In his Perspective, Geballe shows how attention is now shifting back to the main group elements, where several surprising discoveries were made recently. He highlights the study by Eremets et al., who have succeeded in measuring the temperature of superconductivity onset in boron under high pressure.
