Can Adult Stem Cells Suffice?

In the political debate over the use of embryonic stem cells, some opponents claim that malleable adult cells can take the place of their embryonic cousins. But many scientists, including those who work with adult stem cells, aren't so sure. For some diseases, they say, adult cells may indeed turn out to be the better choice, but for other applications, embryo-derived cells have some distinct advantages.
