SUPERCONDUCTIVITY:
Toward Tunable Superconducting Electronics

Göran Wendin and Vitaly S. Shumeiko

Recent years have seen remarkable progress in experimental studies of submicrometer electronic devices. Superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) junctions have interesting new properties with many potential applications in quantum switching networks. In their Perspective, Wendin and Shumeiko highlight the study by Schön et al., who have devised a new method for making SNS devices that avoid problems with interface barriers and disorder. More importantly, the method allows several parameters of the superconducting and normal metal regions to be tuned. This opens up the possibility of designing superconducting switching networks.
